Buying and Caring For Sterling Silver Necklace

If you have been looking for a necklace, which you can wear everyday, and even in simple occasions, one of the best in the market would be sterling silver.

Gold and platinum jewellery will always be popular with people, but recently more and more are looking into sterling silver. Sterling silver is very light, and it also gives a ‘light look,’ making it very feminine. Also, one of its highlights is that it is very affordable, compared to gold and platinum, making it an instant favourite of many.

Because it is affordable, you can easily buy a collection, or several necklaces, so you can change according to your moods, match it to the clothes you are wearing, or even find one which suits the occasion. All these can be easily done, without having to blow your budget.

One example of sterling silver necklace is the layered necklaces. Multiple chains which are strung with charms or beads can be a classic example of layered necklaces. Heart necklaces are always in fashion, and a layered necklace—three chains with a sterling silver heart—is a favourite. This design is influenced by the Art Deco style. And there are so many more designs to choose from. The beauty of sterling silver necklaces is that it can be combined with other gems. A nice and unique design would be a sterling silver snake chain with a heart pendant, with a freshwater pearl dropping through and below the heart.

Perhaps the reason why necklaces with heart pendants are so popular is because it is a fine way to show one’s love for a significant other. No matter what a woman’s tastes in jewellery is, it will be easy to find one which suits her style and personality, or even a simple, classic one which will look good on practically anyone. Another advantage to sterling silver necklaces is that there are many of these in different price ranges, making it relatively easy to find one, which suits one’s budget. Also, the vast majority of designs available will also give one enough room to choose whether one wants something intimate, conveying a personal “I love you” message, or a simple one which will lightly express one’s gratitude and love.

A downside of sterling silver is that it tarnishes. However, this is easy to remedy. Buying polish which can be used to clean sterling silver is easy, as it is readily available in hardware stores and craft stores. Also, homemade polishes are also easy to make. To make a super cleaner for example, you only need one inch of cleaning detergent, one inch of dish washing liquid, and one inch of ammonia. Combine all of these in an eight-ounce container, and fill the rest of the container with water. Shake it well, and, using an old pot, which you no longer use for food, put the solution in and heat it in the stove. Put the silver jewellery in and let it sit for ten minutes. Remove it from the solution and rinse it with water.
